WisCANsin Style Salmon Sandwich

Love this sandwich for when I am on the go but this sandwich can be served warm as well. I understand that adding cheese to something “fishy” sounds weird but every time I make this dish, I think it is better with a couple of slices of cheese. If you are feeling ballsy, then I say go ahead and try adding the cheese. I know my Wisconsin folk will enjoy it more with some swiss, pepper jack or mozzarella cheese added.

Ingredients:

  • 2 slices of bread (Sourdough recommended but any bread is fine)

  • Salmon filet

  • ¾ cup of sour cream

  • 1 tbsp of lemon juice

  • 2 tsp of honey

  • 2 garlic cloves

  • 2 tbsp of fresh dill or dill sauce (in a bottle)

  • Salt

  • Pepper

  • Red onion (or any type of onion)

  • 2-3 slices of tomatoes

  • Greens (Could be lettuce, leaves, arugula, cucumbers, etc.)

    • I like to add cucumbers to just about any sandwich I make

  • Optional: Cheese slices (pepper jack or swiss is recommended )

Directions

  • Toast bread

  • Season and cook salmon with olive oil over medium heat (internal temp of 120 degrees or more)

    • Typically should cook the salmon for 4-5 minutes each side

  • Make Sauce while salmon cooks

    • Sauce: sour cream, lemon juice, honey, garlic, dill, salt and pepper

  • Create a beautiful fuckin sandwich

    • Suggested assembly:

      • Place the sauce on the toasted bread

      • Add cheese slices on top of each piece of toast

      • Add salmon so that the cheese is in between the bread and the salmon. This will allow the cheese to melt

      • If desired, add some more sauce in the middle of the sandwich

      • Add veggies

      • Assemble sandwich

  • Devour!
